Welcome to the Gasworcs
Welcome to Worcester Gilbert and Sullivan Society pages where you will be able to find out all about our society and what we do.
Worcester Gilbert and Sullivan Society has been performing for over 40 years across Worcestershire. We mainly perform the operettas from the wonderful Victorian duo interspersed with parodies, musical hall and snippets from other musical traditions. Our society is proud of its attention to detail, great singing and fabulous costumes as well as making sure we are one of the friendliest societies around. There are many opportunities, other than singing and acting, for members to contribute their skills to the many and varied tasks which are essential to the successful production of a show. These include wardrobe, make-up, back stage, scenery and front of house activities. |
Wreckers of Red Rock will be performed at the Norbury Theatre, Droitwich 17-18th May and The Market Theatre, Ledbury 20-21st May
Click here to find out more Fraser Charlton very cleverly uses the music (and most of the words) of a selection of Gilbert and Sullivan operas to tell a new story. In “The Wreckers of Red Rock” Maximillian Blackheart, the villain, forces the women of Red Rock village to wreck ships for him, not fearing the cowardly Revenuemen. However, in fulfilment of a prophecy, a heroic stranger arrives in the village to win the heart of Maximillian’s love and change the lives of everyone forever. Packed with incredible coincidences, this is the “ultimate melodrama”, and a real crowd-pleaser. With good opportunities for over the top acting and plenty of fun for the women as villains of the piece, this story is told without any compromise to the wonderful compositions of Gilbert and Sullivan and you are sure to recognise a few of your favourite tunes amongst those used. |
